This morning saw the arrival of hundreds of Santas, of all ages (and more than one species), on Southsea sea front, running 5k or 10k to raise money for the RNLI. My friends George and Gordon were in the crowd somewhere, though I only found them at the finish line. It was not the most appealing day for running!
The lifeboat crew were there to cheer on the runners.
And they're off!
One of my favourite views: churning sea, grey sky. Wild and fresh - who wouldn't want to live here?
A late starter, racing hard to catch up (rather him than me).
The winner - though I'm not sure if it's not bending the rules to run powered by a reindeer-antlered husky...

Off to the Barbican last weekend to see Thomas Ostermeier's astonishing German-language production of Hamlet. Earthy, violent, raw, raucous, irreverent, funny - I was entranced. I couldn't even read or listen to music on the train home, my thoughts were so full of it.
Never let it be said that I'm not childish and easily pleased by vulgarity. This excerpt from the programme pleased me immensely. (Yes, colleagues - I did find the right place to work!)
A few days later, and a work trip to London to see two dear authors. I was early, for once, and had time to take pictures at St Pancras. What an elegant clock to arrange to meet under...
...though we had arranged to meet by Betjeman.
Poetry in the floor of the station. I think this quote sums up what I love about being by the sea.
Time to stop now, but
it's nice to have had a quick catch-up after all these months of blog silence.
I'll be back...

Oh my God, you're back! Way too long without Abbie news so how nice to read this. The Santa race made me laugh; apparently they were racing on scooters at Alex last week. The German language Hamlet sounds interesting and might have made me reconsider my vow not to see it again for 10 years because it's way too long. St. Pancras is always my station when I visit London so it's nice to see the Betjamin statue here. Well, take care and hope there'll be another new post sometime soon.
Lovely quote about the sea, yes indeed! Good to see the Santas although it did look VERY cold and grey - reminds me of my last birthday in Brighton when I went for a run down the seafront... Thanks for the post!
